File this under about-to-be-discontinued. Established by Toyota as its own inhouse youth movement in 2002, Scion was initially launched with two offerings that previously were only available in Japan - the boxy Scion xB and slightly more fluid (and conventional) xA. The two-box xB enjoyed significant success, although its quirky, ergonomic design and reasonable efficiency created an audience far wider than the targeted 20-somethings. Regrettably, the second-gen xB was created more out of consumer research than anyone's gut instinct, or at least appeared to be; it was, in short, indistinguishable from any number of warm hatches. More recentlly, a corporate pulse was detected with the launch of the FR-S sports coupe, but that was apparently snuffed out with the almost simultaneous intro of the not-quite-smart iQ. As this is written, in the fall of 2016, there will no longer be a Scion brand.
For fans of the brand, however, there remains the Scion lineup, now firmly (and forever?) under Toyota signage. The FR-S becomes the Toyota 86, the one-time iA (produced by Mazda in Mexico) is now the Yaris iA, and the Toyota-built iM is now the Corolla iM. While the jury is still out as to what's most popular, the most fun is undoubtedly the newly-designated Toyota 86, which is also the most expensive. In its top trim, with a few TRD accessories thrown on or in, it can scat past $30K.
