Some ten years before Henry Ford rolled his Quadricycle from his backyard shed, Karl Benz, Gottllieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach had driven down German roads at the wheel (or tiller) of their own self-propelled vehicles. Some 130 years later, those German initiatives are enveloped into what is now known as Mercedes-Benz automobiles, part of the Daimler-Benz conglomerate. What that long history provides to U.S. consumers is a consistent approach to car design, construction, sales and service. And while the carmaker has had moments in which its reach sometimes exceeded its grasp, generally the purchase of a Mercedes has provided long-term satisfaction along with historically high resale values.

On today's Mercedes showroom there is an almost confusing array of sedans, sports cars, crossovers and SUVs. With a toe in the near-luxury category Mercedes offers both the CLA sedan and GLA crossover. And while those entries hover around $30K, you can spend roughly $130K on a well-optioned S-Class sedan or SL sports car. 'Most fun' can be fluid, but there's a lot to like about AMG editions of the C-Class 4-door and coupe, along with - of course - the iconic SL and smaller SLK.

Bottas makes Hamilton settle for second in F1 finale

Finn maintains a "lonely" lead virtually throughout the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

ABU DHABI — Valtteri Bottas won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday as Mercedes wrapped up another triumphant Formula One season with a one-two finish and four-times world champion Lewis Hamilton having to settle for second. The win was a career third for the Finn, who had started on pole position and stayed in front to deny Hamilton a 10th success of the 20-race campaign. "It's a really important win for me after having a pretty difficult start to the second half of the year," said Botta
